Jayson has an aggressive cancer, please help his family in their time of need.
Upper Hutt, Wellington
Jayson was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer since April 2022. The cancer also metastasized to his brain. After being diagnosed he had to stop working as he went through treatment. His wife, Queenie, also had to quit her job to care for him full time.
To fill their needs financially, they did odd cleaning jobs and food deliveries on weekends, and it was a cute way of spending time as a family while making ends meet. Their son, Yosef, would happily tag along.
Chemotherapy and radiation therapy no longer worked and in July 2023, his oncologist offered two different types of treatment but both with only 10% chances of working. One treatment may come with severe side effects and the other non-funded treatment is very expensive.
Despite exhausting all means, Jayson and Queenie had a flicker of hope when they found an oncologist in the Philippines who offered a combination of treatment that has minimal side effects.
Progress has been seen, but Jayson battles complications, and the toll has become evident. His hemoglobin keeps dropping and he needs blood transfusion and albumin drips.
The family must keep up with a range of medication to address several complications. His liver showed increase in size as per most recent x-ray.
Currently, Jayson is in the hospital (his 4th time in The Philippines) and needs a caregiver 24/7. He has lost so much weight and struggles to breathe sometimes.
The dream of returning to New Zealand is on hold as Jayson had become very frail and weak.
Jay is one of my closest friends in New Zealand. He was a flat mate, we were in a garage band for a couple of years and is truly a brother from another mother.
