Please Help Max Recover — Hit by a Car

$5,000 of $5,000 goal
Given by 137 generous donors in 2 days

Help Max get the treatment he needs after being hit by a car and suffering serious pelvic injuries.

Auckland

My cat Max, a young ginger tabby with a pink collar, was hit by a car on 09 September.

At around 1pm, I received a call from our local vet, Massey Heights Vet Hospital, telling me that a member of the public had found Max after he was hit by a car and brought him to the clinic. He was in very serious condition and was unable to walk.

The vet urgently referred him to VSA (Veterinary Specialists Aotearoa) for emergency treatment and further X-rays.

His latest X-rays showed sacroiliac luxation on both sides of his pelvis — both sacroiliac joints are dislocated.

At the moment, Max is still in hospital because he is in significant pain and cannot yet be safely managed with oral pain medication at home.

I have already paid a $1,000 deposit towards his hospital treatment, the total bill for this stage is around $3000 and not include the deposit. the costs are continuing to increase every day he needs to stay in hospital.

Unfortunately, we're low living cost family and our family income is not enough to cover the significant cost of Max’s ongoing treatment and a potential surgery of $10,000–$12,000. Max does have pet insurance, but his remaining insurance cover is almost exhausted and will not be enough to cover all of his treatment costs. We are doing everything we can, but we simply cannot afford this surgery on our own.

We are therefore asking for help to give Max the best chance of recovery.

Use of funds

If we are able to raise enough money, we hope to proceed with the surgery recommended by the specialists.

If we are unable to raise enough, every donation will still be used entirely towards Max’s treatment and recovery.

12 Sep & 13Sep morning uodate  13 September 2026

Max had surgery yesterday and had to stay in hospital for another night because he was still in a lot of pain, so the vets needed to give him strong pain medication.

The hospital costs are still adding up, and I know it’s very expensive. But I also know that staying there is good for Max because he’s being looked after by professionals. The vet should assess him today to see if he’s well enough to recover at home.

The cost of his ongoing medication and follow-up checks hasn’t been included yet. I’m really scared about how much this is going to cost, and I’m also scared that he might not be able to run again.

I’m so incredibly grateful for all your help. I truly believe Max is going to get better. ❤️
