Unable to work due to a spinal cord injury, Nicola cannot qualify for a loan to recoup loosing $12,600 as first builder liquidated.

Otago

This 'Tiny Castle Project', is a Tiny House on a Trailer build which was intended to be my forever home after I had sold my large house in November 2016 that I could not upkeep due to an injury which has left me also unable to work. Note: please consider carefully the negative side of epidural procedures, they can go terribly wrong. But that's another story.

Although my decision to go 'Tiny' was carefully planned out and budgeted, it did not accommodate the turn of events that saw me loose a $12,644 build deposit in April 2017 with a Tiny House construction company, Duro Ltd, who filed for liquidation the week after receiving my deposit. The liquidators have since not been able to reimburse me at all for my money lost, as I was an unsecured creditor.

I did eventually contract a new trailer base for my Tiny build with Toko Trailers Ltd, and then a new builder with Dunedin Motorhomes Ltd, who began in September 2017. This new direction has involved a series of unavoidable delays which has seen all of my extra savings plunged into ongoing accommodation and other mounting costs over the last two years. I have tried to make up the shortfall by selling my toilet, stove and wood burner that I had pre-purchased, but I still find myself short around $14,000 to complete my build.

I am unable to raise a mortgage or bank loan for the lost money due to being on a benefit, despite the fact that I have already put over $60k of my own money into a nearly completed build. As much as Dunedin Motorhomes have been faithful and skilled in their construction of my Tiny Castle so far, they are a business and need to pay for materials, which I am now unable to fund. (This is the plumbing, wiring and gas hookups).

Thank you for reading, I sincerely hope you may consider assisting me in realising the completion of my home, and if you have any questions, or want to verify any details at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Use of funds

The target fund of $12,600 will cover the complete costs of the plumbing and wiring within the Tiny House build. If there are funds over that price I would like to install a solar panel, a composting toilet, and purchase a small wood burner for heating.
