Intensive Therapy
7 September 2023Hi everyone 👋🏼
This week we made the trip to Auckland for a few days of intensive therapy. We had two physiotherapy sessions and two occupational therapy sessions over the last two days, and Elsie worked so hard! Proud is an understatement. We were fortunate enough to trial an electrical stimulation device for the second time and could see some great results. With the electrodes providing stimulation to a few select muscles, Elsie was able to sit on a bench independently for short periods and was also able to weight bear independently for short periods while holding onto a bench for support. This is huge progress 😍 We will be purchasing an e-stim device for home and getting training so that we can incorporate this into our daily home therapy, as well as picking up a new physio bench tomorrow which we will use daily at home for multiple exercises. Greg and I also have lots of work to do helping Elsie to learn transitions such as moving from sitting to lying/lying to sitting. We will also be teaching these transitions to our loved ones so that they can incorporate this into their routines when Elsie is in their care, with the idea that with consistent practice, Elsie will learn to do them all by herself. We get training, they get training, everyone gets training! 🌸
A huge thanks to all of you for making this trip and future trips possible. We can’t wait to come back! X
Oh, and we can’t finish without a shout out to our sweet little Olive whose just happy to be here 🥰
