Please help our Mum get the surgery she needs so she can come home

Te Reina Worsley, (nee Mikaere-Tangihaere) is a 35 year old wife and devoted mother of 5 young children, Kaos, Vincent, Kenneth, Sonny & Daane.

Te Reina was admitted to Waikato Hospital on the 17th December 2018, after suffering a T.I.A (Transient Ischaemic Attacks) (https://www.stroke.org.nz/tias-warning-strokes-or-mini-strokes). After 11 days and a series of tests Te Reina was diagnosed with Moyamoya Disease, three days after Christmas.

On the 30th of December 2018, she suffered a major stroke to the left side of her brain, resulting in paralysis of her right side and loss of speech.

Te Reina’s determination and courage to be with her children, has helped her rehabilitation, where her speech and mobility are progressing and she is no longer dependent on 24hr care.

Te Reina requires a surgical procedure to provide immediate improvement of blood supply to the brain, to prevent neurologic deterioration from further strokes.

We have been advised of 2 offshore options, MacQuarie University Hospital in Sydney, Australia and Stanford Neuroscience Health Centre in San Francisco, America.

Te Reinas case has been reviewed by the surgeons at Stanford and we have been given an estimated cost of $172,000 NZD and we are waiting to hear back from Sydney.

As a whanau we are doing our best to source the funds for Te Reina’s treatment, at this point any help will be very much appreciated.
