Please Help Our Rescue Dog Get Vet care he needs
Northland
We’re reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help for our beloved dog, who’s battling a serious mouth infection which we have been told if left untreated could go to his heart or brain causing his death. The vet confirmed he has infected teeth and painful growths that need to be removed as soon as able.
He’s scheduled for surgery on November 14, which will include x-rays, removal of gum growths (epulis), a full clean and polish, and extraction of diseased teeth. Because they won’t know exactly how many teeth need to come out until he’s under anaesthetic, the cost can vary.
The vet’s estimate is $1,200–$1,500, plus pre-anaesthetic blood tests and a special cardiac anaesthetic protocol due to a newly discovered heart murmur. We’ve set our goal at $1,600 to cover his full treatment, medication, and follow-up care.
We’ve uploaded a photo of the vet’s quote-it covers the procedure only, while our goal includes recovery needs to help him heal safely.
We rescued him years ago, and he’s been the heart of our home ever since, full of love, comfort, and laughter (he is a little greyer than the pictures now though) Seeing him in pain and knowing we can’t cover this unexpected cost alone has been heartbreaking.
Every bit of help means the world to us. Your kindness will go directly toward his care & healing. If any funds remain, they’ll help keep our family stable as we recover from this challenge.
Thank you for helping us give him the healthy, happy life he deserves.
A struggling family ❤️
29 October 2025:
Every donation goes directly toward his treatment and follow-up care costs
If funds exceed the vet bill, extra will help our family build and maintain stability, cover essentials, and create a small emergency buffer.
14 November 2025:
Today's invoice (14/11/25) and, if surgery can safely go ahead, that as well. If surgery isn’t possible, the funds will support his ongoing vet care, including heart medication, antibiotics, consultations, and any treatments he needs.
Latest vet visit 8 December 2025
Hey everyone,
Just a quick update after our latest vet visit. His heart has shown some improvement, which is great news, but it’s still not stable enough yet for his dental surgery. He’s responding well to antibiotics, but they’re only a temporary measure — the infection will continue returning until the teeth are removed.
The vet plans to reassess him in January, when more staff will be available to ensure the procedure can be done safely and without rushing. They can’t guarantee yet whether he will be strong enough at that time, but we’re following all their recommendations and doing everything we can to get him there.
In the meantime, he has been prescribed additional heart medication (we will be getting more next week) and these ongoing costs have reduced the funds we had raised for the surgery. We’re working hard to rebuild the total needed for his operation, and every bit of support truly helps.
We will also be reopening our Givealittle page so anyone who can contribute or share it can help us reach the goal and make sure he gets the care he needs. We haven’t set a specific goal this time, as the cost of his ongoing heart medication isn’t certain until his surgery.
No matter what the January assessment brings, all funds raised will go directly toward his vet bills, heart medication, and medical care. Thank you so much for your kindness, understanding, and ongoing support — it means the world to us. ❤️
