Rachel's surgery went well!! 7 days post op and she is healing so well! So many improvements we have already seen, plus she was walking unassisted only after a few days! All medical professionals in her care were amazing! Now it's time for the long road to recovery! We are hoping to be back in New Zealand by next weekend.

We can't thank everyone enough for the love and support in getting our girl over here! Every donation and kind message is greatly appreciated!!

  • Big update

      19 August 2025

Hey everyone! Fantastic news! We met the surgeon yesterday in Australia and he will

operate!! Rach loved him, he was very validating and she experienced 0 gaslighting (complete opposite to NZ😆). We are over the moon about this as this is much closer to home than Germany or Spain. Sept 8th is the earliest she can get surgery. We have decided to stay over here until then instead of flying home and coming back. We are hoping that if there is a cancellation she can get in sooner, but also safer to keep our girl in an area where she can get the medical help she needs if something happens until surgery. Her surgeon is going to talk to his gastro colleagues to see if they can do anything for her seperate stomach issue aswell. Overall we couldn't be happier and Rach can't stop smiling

  • More hope for our girl

      26 June 2025

Hey everyone! Appreciate the immense support we are continuing to receive!!

Rachel and her friends are running a stall this weekend at the Whakatāne Sunday Markets to sell a bunch of donated clothes and goods to help fundraise

We are booked in for a consultation in Australia August 12th. The surgeon there has reviewed her scans in-depth and would like to meet face to face for possible next steps. Unfortunately he is not permitted to discuss these next steps via email or Zoom, but it is sounding hopeful he will be able to operate. If we are happy with his plan we are highly likely to go ahead. We are unsure of exact prices until we know the plan, but we do know it will be much cheaper than Germany.

We are still looking into possible treatments for her seperate stomach issue, but it is starting to look hopeful as we start learning more and more about what we could do.

  • Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone for the kind messages, support and donations so far!! We as a family are extremely grateful!!

So far her main option is Germany, we have spoken to this surgeon and he will do the surgery when we are financially ready. This will be around 150k.

We are waiting to hear back from a surgeon in Australia to see if he could take on her case, this will be a surgery easier financially.

Spain is also an option that we are still working on which will be around 150k.

These countries tackle these surgeries with different surgical techniques and approaches. It is a-lot to take into consideration due to other various health issues and we want the best possible outcome for our girl long term.

We will update the page when we confirm the destination
