Please Help Scotty To Keep Fighting!

$248,170 donated
Given by 1919 generous donors in 10 weeks

After a devastating brain cancer diagnosis, Scotty needs our help. Every donation gives our family hope for him to be around for our Kippy!

Christchurch, Canterbury

I'm Mia, Scotty's fiancée, and together we have our beautiful 15 month old son, Kipp.

A year ago, our little life of three felt perfect.

Then last August, our lives changed forever when Scotty was unexpectedly diagnosed with Grade 3 Brain Cancer after a CT scan following a sports injury. Since then we've faced surgery, endless scans, fear and unimaginable uncertainty.

One of the hardest losses so far has been Scotty's career. The same day he was diagnosed he was told he'd never fly again. Being an Air New Zealand Captain had been a lifelong dream and anyone who knows him knows how much he loved flying and his colleagues.

Through it all Scotty has shown incredible strength. To us, he's so much more than his diagnosis. He's Kippy's Dadda, my soulmate and the heart of our little family.

Now we're facing the next stage - a high risk second surgery, specialist care, unfunded treatments and possible overseas procedures at significant cost. The surgery carries a real risk of compromising Scotty's left side and possible paralysis, all the while the financial pressures continue to grow.

Scotty would never ask for help himself, so I'm asking for him. Every donation will help us access the best possible care, cover treatment costs and give Scotty every chance to keep fighting.

If you are able to donate, thank you. If not, even sharing our story would mean the world!

From the bottom of our hearts thank you for your love, kindness and support.

Love Mia, Scotty, Kippy & our families xx

Use of funds

These funds will be used to access the best care available, cover treatment and unfunded medication costs, and ease some of the stressful financial burden while we can't work, so we can continue to fight this fight as our little family of three. Page updates will be provided when we know more about treatment options.

Part 3 - Scotty’s Surgery Update  28 August 2026

However, as always, our Scotty has been positive and realistic. This is an additional hurdle on top of everything else, but it is also something that was always a risk of the surgery itself and something that Scotty has great perspective on.

For now, our focus is simply on making sure Scotty takes the time he needs to recover from back to back craniotomy’s. We haven’t yet made any decisions around his next steps as we are waiting on Scotty’s histology results from Australia. Once we get these back we will have a better idea of what treatment will be best suited to Scotty.

We will, of course, keep you all updated as we know more.

Once again, thank you for being here with us through all of this. There have been some incredibly difficult days, and knowing we have such a caring community around us has made those days a little easier. We are so grateful for every bit of kindness, generosity and support you’ve shown Scotty and our family. 🤍
