Well day 7 of being on toujeo and the libre2 is still in place well some bay boy you have done well all tho still rolling around and being cheeky this morning he had a reading of 14.5 which is th lowest he’s ever been at fingers x we can keep him at a safe level the toujeo will take at least 7-10 days to settle in his body it’s like a slow releasing insulin where is the caninsulin was fast acting I have high hopes for our boy

Vet check again next week and also the libre2 will be removed maybe another put in place unsure at this stage we want to get him as stable as possible through Xmas 🎄

Thanking you all for your continued support and sharing it really means a lot to us we appreciate this time of year is super hard on everybody and we are all just trying to get by so thanking each and everyone of you whom have been in a position to be able donate or share 🎄🙏🐾thank you merry Xmas 🎄 to all safe travels and a very happy new year🎅🎄🐾

  • Vet visit libre2 intact/transfer to toujeo insulin pen

      8 December 2025
    Main image

Brave boy was off to the vet once again this morning we were up early to make our trip the libre2 was placed on sikhanas neck another wee haircut he was feeling super cheeky at this visit he didn’t really flinch whilst the vet was inserting this on to his neck the flattest area we could think would work best Sikhana loves to roll around and sleep on his back fingers x it will stay in place for the next 15 days 🤞

Since having both his first new doses of the toujeo sikhanas levels have been high however hoping by tomorrow they will adjust and come back down to where we would be happy with and he is in himself

This is very exciting but also very nerve wracking we definitely don’t want him to fall back into a DKA another vet check in 2-3 weeks the vet will get sikhanas readings from his monitor these things are great and saves us trying to prick his ear for BG test we just download the app and scan the phone over his wee gadget and it gives us the reading that way very amazing I’m guessing it will take a couple times for me to get the hang of using the pens the vet made it looks so very easy and it’s so super different from using the needles and drawing it up from the vial I do have high hopes and our boy is the bravest sweetest soul ever!! It was good to see him happy going into the vets today he loves them all at Takurua Vets

Thankyou all once again for all your support we appreciate times are tough at this time of year please share 🐾🙏💚🎄

  • Transfer to human insulin Toujeo solorstar insulin pens

      5 December 2025
    Main image

Sikhana has been doing well these past 2 weeks and is reacting well on his higher insulin dose cysts on paws are clearing lots of energy and even getting his zoomies back

On Monday we have another vet appointment we are transferring sikhana onto toujeo which is a human insulin this cost $200 for a box of 5 pens he will be also having a libre2 placed so that we can better read his readings without stressing him

As you can imagine we are all so very nervous with this move but definitely more cost effective in the long term for us to manage

We want to thank you all so very much for your support shares it means a lot to us all especially at this hard time of year we understand moneys tight and the cost of living is horrendous donations can also be made directly to the vet there information is on the photos under the invoices we really appreciate everybody’s help getting through this unexpected nightmare I’m hopful once we’re able to get his insulin sorted for awhile he will bounce back along with good diet sikhana is not fussed some green veggies that would be helpful however he’s definitely trying his hardest treats are now blueberry’s strawberry’s celery sticks or cucumber.😞 he loves the berry’s not fussed on cucumber I’m sure he will get used to the cold crisp sticks

However he’s had his first real treat a veal bone which he’s not had in the last 3mths this is just a wee treat

All in all he’s doing well

Thank you all so very much

Merry Christmas 🎄 happy new year 🥳

We just can’t thank you all enough for all the support and generosity sikhana has been given very overwhelming we have managed to pay our first vet bill that being $4700 left out of $9000 thw ongoing cost of insulin and all things needed with his diabetes on going vet visits last week sikhana went into DKA this was life threatening and he was admitted to hospital for 3 days needing fluids meds through ice he was very unwell and had lost his appetite and vomiting again however he has bounced back on a higher insulin dose and is currently on antibiotics it’s understanding what dose he is happy at and helping him this also left us with yet again another draw dropping vet bill of $3700 which I will chip away as best as I can all donations will go to his vet bill and insulin costs which is $88.43 per 10ml bottle we are using 2 per week 🤦🏽‍♀️he’s definitely a fighter and well worth it once we have his doses sorted he will be him big cheeky self once again

It amazes me how strong sikhana is throughout this whole journey we didn’t ask for this and definitely would not of had the prednisone had we known this would be the outcome of that

Today he is weighing in at a mere 51kg he has lost 15kgs throughout this 3mth nightmare yet he’s still the most sweetest soul boy you would ever know

Much love and appreciation to all whom have supported and continue to support us we would also like to thank the Christchurch bull breed rescue for donating sikhana some diabetic kibble thankyou💚🐾

  • Sikhanas diabetic fight

Hello wonderful supporters another update after being admitted to hospital for 3 days 2 of them was on fluids and iv meds the last day he didn’t need fluids but close monitoring we have upped his insulin intake to 45iu x2 daily since this I have seen improvement in his coat skin the cysts are clearing the higher dose is working better for him as you could imagine this was very unexpected and another vet bill we really appreciate all support and are very very grateful Sikhana is currently on the caninsulin for dogs and cats we have sourced the cheapest place and that is $88.43 per bottle we are using 2bottles per week all donations received will be going towards sikhanas insulin so we don’t run out and towards the vet bill photos attached

Yes we understand the costs of vets and pets will usually need some urgent care at stages but never did I imagine that taking my beautiful boy to the vet for a skin allergy would lead to him having diabetes he’s not even 2 🤦🏽‍♀️ we will not give up on him when he’s on the correct insulin dose he is so well he’s the bestest boy at the vets and lets the nurses do all the work he knows they are trying to help him

We appreciate everyone of you for your amazing support please please share his page 💚🐾

Sikhanas sugar levels have still been really high his infections are still present the week cysts on his feet flare up continue with Epsom salt washes the vet has advised we up his insulin from 32iu to now 38iu this means we will be using more then 1 bottle power week a bottle of insulin cost $88.43 delivered to our door from northland this is the cheapest atm also still considering a libre sikhana is beginning to not like the ear pricks which is making it hard to get a sample vet has recommended a hills w/d kibble or a royal chain because of our boys size he would be using at least 6kg bags per week all in all this unexpected illness is starting to prove costly we’d like to again thank all that have helped support our beautiful boy fingers crossed this still could be temporary I’m hoping so still very cheeky and all days a different from the one before I can’t wait to see what the future brings our big beauty 💚🐾

  • Getting stronger 💚

      5 November 2025
    Main image

Hi all another big thank you for all your thoughts support and well wishes we appreciate every one of you wee update for our boy 🐾💚we are still having issues with. Cysts in between his toes and paws Epsom salt washes and doing some environmental changes as you all would know this can be difficult however am trying everything wee need to help our boy still having insulin 32iu x2 per day have seen no real change with what the insulin is doing to help as he’s still obviously prone to infections however with good care and cleaning these are not getting infected

Walking can be difficult due to sore paws grip socks work a treat and beach walks

Making a yummy diabetic friendly bone broth which sikhana has been enjoying

Definitely not enjoying the fireworks at present we try and turn our tvs up and be super loud or try and distract him but he must still hear the viabrations and gets really upset to the point he won’t want to go outside for toilet this is quite a new fear for sikhana we will be there for him and keep trying other distraction tricks I’m sure this will be the same for many households at this time of year

All in all every day is different and he is getting a little stronger still is very thin this could be due to the diabetes finger cross this is just temporary 🐾💚

  • Update

Hello all another huge thank you for all your support so far for our boy.

He’s doing well this past week still has cyst and his hotspot has still flared we are doing epsom salt washes on his feet and face

Blood glucose levels are still really high we are aiming to purchase him a libre which will be attached somewhere on his body so we can better monitor his sugar levels he’s having 32iu x2 daily at this stage

Back to full diet currently loving little beetroot in with his feed trying to keep his diet at a level his sugars will agree with can be challenging especially since he’s a hungry growing boy

Loving his walks on the beach however we are watching as we don’t want sand to disturb his cysts

All in all this week our boy has been outstanding we are coming up to 2 months now since this all started what a journey it has been we appreciate all your support please keep sharing 😍❤️thank you all

    Latest update

Because sikhanas immune system is very weak at the moment he now has a couple of cysts in between his toes his hotspot on his cheek is clearing up slowly he has still been happy among all what’s going on with him as you can imagine this can get all so very overwhelming vet has explained if his foot doesn’t clear we may need to sedate and see what’s going on with that

So still not out of the woods as yet we get 10 steps forward and 15 backwards at the moment we really really appreciate all your support throughout this journey this will take months for sikhana to build up his strength again and hopefully his toes will heal I am soaking in epsom salts cleaning and drying it’s really hard as it’s been crappy rain here in Christchurch

Once again thank you all so very much for your support it means so very much to us all 🐾💚🐾

  • Back on antibiotics 😢

      3 October 2025
    Main image

Hello supporters just a wee update sikhanas had vet visit today a wee hiccup his hotspot has flared up once again so back on antibiotics today and the vet has also upd his insulin intake from 27iu to now 32iu twice daily also has advised us to purchase a libre 2 which sits on his body somewhere like a earring this makes it more easier to take his blood glucose rather then pricking his ear daily this is a device that last for 15 days and readings are shown as graph which the vet can then monitor him for a 12 hour period he was very brave today we are washing the hotspot with a chlorhexidine and rinsing once daily fingers cross we can get this back under control

Because sikhanas immune system is extremely low plus being diabetic makes him more prone to infections 53.9kg today wee bit of a weight drop he’s eating really good now still loving his roast chicken green beans rice carrots broccoli long road ahead but we will get there ❤️

Big thank you once again for all your support this is very much appreciated from us all thank you

  • Vet check up

Thankyou all so very much to whom have supported sikhana we really appreciate every one of you.Sikhana has been up and down this week with the abscesses healing we will now be able to get his insulin sorted and his BG should pan out. Still very weak walking and moving around his eating is a little better

At this stage we are treating him as diabetic due to the after affect from the prednisone sikhana is brave letting us prick his ears to check his levels also with administration of the insulin x2 daily every 12 hours I’m sure this will take time to wrap our heads around him being diabetic especially for not being 2 years old yet please be aware that if your fur baby is unwell diabetes is a side affect of that medication opting for another medication could be useful

Sikhanas wounds are healing well and his hair is slowly growing back

Once again thank. You to all of your support 🐾

  • Did you have insurance ? Very grateful for all support 🐾💚🙏

      12 September 2025
    Main image

Thank you to all for your support it’s very much appreciated for those whom are asking yes you are welcome to donate directly to the vet itself there bank details are in photos please use the ref number there or sikhanas name

Also for others whom were also wondering no we did not have pet insurance I was putting money away weekly for things such as this however because sikhana had been at the vet 5 times before this that exhausted our doggo bank we were estimated $4500 for the surgery however once it was over and done with it can to over $9000 I myself have paid $5200

This is not easy for anybody to just whip out this amount of money at any time but somehow we were able to do so as you see has left us with a balance of $4600 hence the reason for this page

This illness due to the prednisone has also left us treating sikhana as a diabetic insulin 10ml bottle cost $155 from the vet he’s needing 1 each week however I have just sourced and online vet pharmacy there price is $88 per bottle

7 weeks ago sikhana was a very fit and healthy boy and non diabetic

Now he’s diabetic no insurance will cover him for anything he’s encountered since having the prednisone which has so far been skin allergy double ear infection hotspot deterioration loss appetite vomiting major surgery+

Please also keep in mind it’s not easy asking for help and so we appreciate any support share message of hope that can help us get through this

Any more questions or doubt please private message myself 💚

This morning we were back into the vet a fluid like lump had formed on the back of his neck and his blood glucose levels were out the roof dr Tommy assessed and it was an abscess infected a little local anaesthetic and a wee incision helped relieve a lot of the gunky fluids sikhana is the bravest boy he just sits and lets dr Tommy do his work he knows he’s there to help him back on antibiotics we are massaging and trying release the fluid at home fingers x this will help with his BG over the next couple of days back to the vet Thursday to check I incision area and drain more if need be..

Sikhanas feeling stronger and stronger every day he’s back eating his 2 full meals his roasted chicken included his wounds are healing beautifully last Wednesday when we left the vet he was 53kg today he is 55kg so good progress

We will post an update after Thursdays appointment thank you very much 💚🙏💚
