Eleazar needs an operation.
Auckland
Eleazar is my precious two‑year‑old nephew living in Samoa. From birth his life has been filled with medical challenges that no child should ever have to face. In Apr 2024, we flew him to New Zealand because the care he needed simply wasn’t available at home. When his Medical Treatment Visa expired, he had to return to Samoa on 6 Dec 2025 — even though he still needs urgent care.
Eleazar has severe hypotonia, poor head control, and dystonic movements. He cannot eat safely and depends on a feeding tube to survive. Even tiny amounts of purée can make him choke. Yet despite all this, he still smiles when he feels someone’s touch — his way of connecting with the world through the little senses he has left.
Doctors have confirmed profound hearing loss and severe visual impairment. His weak muscles make him vulnerable to dangerous respiratory infections. Every day is a careful balance of keeping him safe.
Eleazar urgently needs a Laryngoscopy and Bronchoscopy to understand why he wheezes and struggles to breathe during feeds. He has been on the waiting list since March 2025 and only heard back in mid‑December. Without this procedure, his risks remain frighteningly high.
The treatment is not funded in New Zealand as Eleazar is not a New Zealand resident.
Our family is doing everything we can, but the travel, medical costs, and ongoing care are overwhelming. Any contribution - big or small - will help give Eleazar the chance to breathe easier, feed safely, and live with comfortably.
Thank you for opening your heart to him. Your kindness means more than words can say.
I am Eleazars aunt, the sister of Eleazars mother.
Your support will help Eleazars parents pay for his operation, flights, existing and ongoing medical bills during his recovery here in New Zealand when they arrive.
