The Bigwood family had just finished renovating their house when, due to no fault of their own, disaster struck.
Auckland
The Bigwood family are very kind people who would give you the shirt off their back. Shane the Dad has coached a School Rippa team, and the family are well liked in the community.
But now they need your help.
Last Monday morning an underground sewage pipe located in the Bigwoods back yard, which was a collection point for all the sewage in their subdivision exploded... Mum Michelle arrived home after dropping her kids off at school to see her driveway wet, opened her front door and was knocked out by the smell. There was sewage everywhere. Because sewage is highly toxic bio hazardous material they lost all their photos, their clothing, and to add to their heartbreak items Michelles mother (who is now deceased) had made for their kids prior to her passing, the list goes on and as you can imagine aside from losing a family member, to lose everything else is right up there.
To make it worse, Shane and Michelle had just extended their mortgage towards fulfilling their dream of having their house renovated, new carpet, paint, furniture, the works, and on Sunday night, the night before this happened, the last picture was hung back on the wall. But the very next day this happened and now their entire life sits in two massive skips in their front yard. They cannot even go in their front door. Everything was removed by some men in special protective gear.
It is going to take months to have the house repaired, The family were insured but their contents policy only covers a certain amount and for a family of 5 when you do the maths it is simply nowhere near enough for them to rebuild their entire contents from scratch. They don't even have a christmas tree.
I have set up this page as what this family really needs to start rebuilding their life is money to rebuy things -from toiletries to bedding - you name it. And I hope this helps give them a boost to let them know that people care and they aren't alone. So please help Shane, Michelle and their kids, Amber, Blake and Isla try to get things back to normal as much as they can as quickly as possible. Any amount, no matter how big or how small is appreciated and will go straight to the family.
We know the Bigwood family personally and after what has happened to them felt we wanted to try to do something to help them out.
The funds will go towards Shane, Michelle, Amber,Blake and Isla rebuilding their household contents from the basics up.
Update from the Bigwood Family 17 July 2018
It has now been just 6 weeks since the sewerage collection point on their property exploded, turning the Bigwood familys world upside down.
Everyone (apart from the family dog who has been housed elsewhere for the time being) are staying in temporary accommodation not far from their family home and will remain there until their house becomes liveable again - which is proving to be a time consuming process.
During this time, they are constantly reminded of household items that they are having to replace. This makes every donation, no matter how big or small, a huge help, and something which they are forever thankful for.
Moving forward, as soon as the sanitation levels are up to a normal and safe percentage, work can finally commence on rebuilding their home, which the family hope will be this side of Christmas, with the goal of moving back home early-mid 2019.
Shane, Michelle, Amber, Blake and Isla have been very humbled by the generosity of each and every person who has shown them kindness during this time of extreme challenges, and would like to say a massive thank you to every single person who has donated towards helping them attempt to restore a sense of normality back into their lives, or helped in some small way.
