We have heard back from Hills Science about Milo. He’s a special case and vets have been discussing him with scientists in America.

He has two issues going on, calcified bladder stones and kidney disease. They have been trying to decide the best diet to put him on. Either diet to help kidneys (which he’s currently on) or diet to stop calcium build up which causes stones which caused kidney disease in the first place.

They have decided kidney disease is the most important to treat as it has the biggest risk of a horrible outcome.

So to try to prevent the bladder stones we have to give lots of water, and have 3 monthly X-rays to check stones and to catch them early enough so they can be flushed out with a catheter.

Onwards and upwards from here 😊

Milo has now had multiple blood tests to determine how his kidneys are doing after his bladder stones were removed. His levels are still high but have reduced slightly and Milo is a lot happier in himself.

His stage 3 kidney disease will be managed with a special kidney diet until we get the stone results back from USA then he will likely be on a combination diet to manage both the kidney disease and the bladder stone build up.

We are just happy he is his normal happy self again and feeling much better.

We picked Milo up today. Millie is extremely happy to have him home.

He’s very quiet and very sore so he has been resting all day.

He didn’t eat breakfast but he’s just had some dinner and now back in bed resting.

Bladder stones have been sent to USA so we are waiting on the results of those.

We have an appointment on Tuesday to have some more bloods taken to check his kidney levels again.

We are all so happy he’s home.

  • Milo’s Surgery

      1 March 2018

After blood tests this morning the vets decided to go ahead with his surgery today. One of the kidney levels they test for had gone down (which is great) but the other went up, possibly due to the increased pressure on his bladder and kidneys while on fluids, so it was best to go ahead now before it got any worse.

They found and removed 15 bladder stones, apparently they have a strange formation so it could indicate an issue with his kidneys or his liver. They are sending the stones off the America to be tested so we know which diet to put him on.

He is recovering well and we are hoping to get him home tomorrow evening or Saturday morning.

We just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated or shared Milos page and for all the kind messages. We have been blown away by the amount of love and support we have had.
