Make a difference in our lives: Donate toward cancer treatment for Carolyn Schmidt. We need our mum, our friend.

Auckland

Mum’s cancer is back.

We thought we’d won, back in 2018. But it’s back, and with a vengeance. Our best chance to keep our mum around is immunotherapy - at a cost of $100,000 a year.

So here is our plea: please, help us afford this treatment. We need your help to keep our mum alive. Anything you can spare will be so appreciated.

We need our mum, my dad needs his wife. Our kids need their grandma. Mum’s friends need their mate.

You have the opportunity to make a difference in all of our lives, so please, give what you can.

With love,

Carolyn’s family and friends.

Carolyn’s cancer journey:

Mum-Carolyn Schmidt was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016/2017. It was a real shock to everyone close to mum but more so herself. We as a family didn't know much about cancer in general or even how to deal with it. Every day was a constant struggle for mum, she had an amazing team supporting her with daily needs as she went through chemotherapy. Mum was a fighter and always looked at the positive side of life, she has no ounce of quit in her body so we knew mum would come out victorious in her battle. A year after her diagnosis we got confirmation mum was cancer free and in remission! We jumped for joy. Mums pain and struggle was worth it.

Fast forward to December 2020. What we thought was sciatic nerve pain in her leg turned to be an unexpected diagnosis. Mums cancer was back, this time it's appeared aggressively hitting her spine & liver. We were informed Mum's life expectancy is only months instead of years. even though we are heart broken by this news we continue to keep the faith and be strong for mum. Mum is currently undergoing radiation treatment to shrink her tumours on her spine this is expected to support her mobility & pain.

On December 18th, mum had a meeting with her oncology doctor to confirm her treatment plan. She was offered immunotherapy with the expectations of providing quality of life. However, the negative news is the drug being used to support mum is not funded by the government so we have to come up with the money to pay for the treatment. The cost is a bit of a hefty one it is going to cost $100,000 dollars so with that being said us as a family are going to need all the help we can get; nothing is too small so with this give a little page we hope it gives us the help we need with the treatment that mum has to endure.

Use of funds

Our main goal is to afford the best option cancer treatment for Mum, which is not funded by the government. If we can’t make that, funds will be used to support Mum and our family through this time.
