Please help raise funds for Zayne's eye operation
Hawke's Bay
My 6 year old boy Zayne (one of a twin) was diagnosed with Exotropia (where his one eye turn outwards) when he was around 3 years of age. He have been to several Specialists in Auckland (where we lived at the time), given prescription glasses, eye drops that dilutes his pupil to almost full size, then went through patching treatment, again new prescription glasses with no to little improvement. We put him into daycare, where my bubbly little boy suddenly became introverted and just kept to himself. He was being made fun of at daycare. He started year 1 at Browns Bay Primary, again being made fun of, especially because at the time, his one pupil was diluted to almost full size because of the eye drops, and the glasses he had to wear were really thick, making his "cross eye" even more visible to other children.
We decided to move to Napier in the Hawke's Bay in 2019, where life is not as rushed and less stressful. My husband would fly Zayne up to Auckland every 6 weeks for his Specialist appointments, just to be told there is no improvement, let's see how he progresses in the next 6 weeks. We requested to be transferred to a Specialist in Napier, as the travelling to Auckland each 6 weeks, worked out too expensive. He now has seen the Specialist in Napier several times, and she suggested the only option now is surgery, where they loosen the eye muscle and pull it straight. We are now on the waiting list, which is massive as you can imagine, it could take months to years before he can have this operation. Therefore, we decided to create this page to try raise funds to have this operation done privately, where the waiting time would approx 2 weeks.
He is attending Taradale Primary, currently year 2, however until today, has extreme difficulty reading and on top of that, being made fun of. He is getting more and more introverted and we have decided we need to come up with some kind of plan so he can live a normal happy life in public and enjoy school like any child should.
He has a twin sister, Chanel, and a younger brother Keagan (4).
Much appreciated and thank you.
