Please help us support Logan's fight to stay alive

      24 March 2019

    Hi all

Thank you everyone for the love and support. It means the world to both of us.

Logan will soon complete a month of full strength treatment. We’ve seen a response with the Venetoclax - the leukaemia is holding constant rather than increasing at the moment. This is good news at this stage and hopefully we’ll see it start to shrink in the future.

Other complications and difficulties come up daily and it’s been very tough for Logan recently, but we’re doing everything we can to make it easier.

There is lots of positive news, on the 12th Logan and I had a very small and simple ceremony in hospital and now we are officially married! We are both very happy, and although simple, the night was very special. If possible, we’ll look to do a celebration with friends and family outside the hospital in the near future.

Finally in some quite surprising news, our application for compassionate funding from pharmac has proven successful for Logan’s Azicitidine medications. This means that future rounds of this treatment can be funded through the public system and can also be given through the public system. Meaning less financial stress and medicinally a much smoother ride for Logan. Additionally, we also applied to the company that produces Venetoclax and they have granted funding in the future for medication. Logan’s doctors weren’t expecting the application to be successful, so it is wonderful news. While it’s been an expensive journey so far, and will continue to be for a little while longer, the support we’ve received from everyone here has made Logan’s treatment possible and a weight has been lifted knowing that the long-term costs in the future will be managed.

Much love and thank you all for the unbelievable outpouring of love and support.

    Jeremy

Hey guys just thought we’d give a quick update as to what has been happening, how Logan has been going, and to acknowledge all your amazing support so far. The last few days have been pretty rough to put it lightly, but Logan is definitely on the up each day.

Today is his last day of the first round of Azacitidine. Which he receives seven days a month. Azacitidine is the first of the privately funded drugs, and is an ongoing cost of around $5,000 per month for the foreseeable future.

The first few whacks of standard chemo have done their job and his blood counts are low enough for him to have started the second of the private drugs, Venetoclax. He’s currently currently ramping up to the full dose of four pills a day, which seem to be working so far. This little sucker will cost around $500 a day, for years to come.

We also just wanted to give a massive shout out to our wonderful friends and colleagues at PwC for organising what turned out to be an amazing success of a fundraising head shave with over 35 guys and gals shaving their heads and raising money to support Logan. You guys are all amazing, love you.

That’s us for now, we’ll try not to leave it so long next time. Once again, thanks for all your amazing love and support. Logan and Jeremy have loved reading all your beautiful comments.

Thank you everyone for your support and kindness so far.

A quick update - Logan has started chemotherapy at Wellington Hospital, as well as the first round of one of the privately-funded trial drugs. The chemotherapy is preparing him for the second privately-funded trial drug, which we hope to start in the next few days.

We will provide another update soon to let you all know what is happening.

Thanks again for your donations, messages of support, and aroha.
