Medical bills are piling up after a planned surgery to manage angina turned into an agonising 27 day stay in Bundang Jesaeng hospital (South Korea).

Recovery from surgery has been slow with many setbacks including a 4cm pseudoaneurysm which required further surgery and multiple hematomas requiring draining.

This has been costly not only financially but mentally and emotionally also.

Language barriers, refusal of pain medications despite excruciating pain post surgery, refusal to complete medical imaging (CT scan) to allow transfer to another hospital are just some examples Chris’s unfortunate experience with many other instances of neglect throughout his time in hospital.

The total cost of Chris’s stay in Bundang Jesaeng hospital this far has been $30,000 (10,000 of which was thankfully covered by insurances). We are unsure at this stage if there are any further bills incoming to add to this total however the money raised by this page will go towards the $20,000 bill and any further bills from this hospital.

Chris plans to fly home to NZ next week and will be admitted to Middlemore hospital for ongoing care with a long road to recovery ahead. The cost of his airfares ($3,200) will also be reimbursed from funds raised from this page.

ACC may cover some of Chris’s rehabilitation costs once home and receiving care within our medical system though we are unsure what services will be needed and the cost of this
