Hawke's Bay

For many of us, Christmas is a precious time spent with our families and loved ones, decorating our homes with Christmas decorations, exchanging gifts, and sharing a special meal together. But for some women the festive season offers only stress, fear and violence.

This year, the Hastings and Napier Women’s refuges are anticipating one of their busiest periods and will be supporting over 100 women and their families over the Christmas period. Including the time from now on and up to the time people return to work in the New Year, they are expecting their services will be at capacity with their 2 Safe houses, their emergency housing service and supporting the women in the community who are either still living with a violent partner, or have left and are trying to put their lives together again.

The team from the Hastings & Napier Women’s Refuges are asking for schools, businesses and individuals to consider supporting their Christmas Appeal, which will ensure that every woman and child in their services will receive a Christmas gift. They are also hoping that people will get behind their INSTANT CHRISTMAS IN A BOX which will give a family everything they need to celebrate Christmas day wherever they are.
