Poor Boy Needs Surgery

  • Thank you for your support!!

It's been about 3 days since Gus has finished his course of antibiotics and there is no sign of his eye swelling up again. Yay!!! 🙌🙌

His eye is actually looking so good! It's day 10 since his mini surgery and I was able to take 3 of his stitches out!! Two are still in there and I'll probably wait another few days to see if they are able to come out too.

His spirits are high and he's actually pulled a muscle in one of his front legs from getting a bit too excited 😅 so I'm forcing him to rest and controlling his walks and play time so he doesn't hurt himself again.

I'm absolutely amazed with the amount of support we've received and I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who helped! It took a lot of stress off the situation which I really appreciate!!

    Much love to everyone!!! ❤️❤️

  • Things could be looking up!

Have been back to the vet with Gus this morning, and things could be looking up.

The senior vet managed to sedate him successfully and decided to make an incision on the eye lid to see if he could squeeze anything else out, hoping the seed would come out too.

He wasn't able to see any seed come out, so he recommended for us to let him cut the eye lid open further under anesthetic and scrape out what he could. I agreed, just thinking at lease we could know for sure we've done everything we can to make sure that pesky seed is out... he couldn't find anything while he was in there and so we assume it probably came out when it burst.

It's not 100% but we are feeling good about it. There is definitely still a chance it's still in there but at the moment we just have to wait and see how it heals and if the infection comes back or not.

Please keep your fingers crossed for him 🤞🤞 we hope to avoid surgery all together, but we have to keep in mind it's still a possibility.

  • Even more vet visits.

Had to take Gus into the vet again today, I left him for less than 5 minutes and he managed to get his e-collar off and paw at his face, resulting in his eye lid splitting slightly and all the built up blood behind it came out.

I came back into the living room to find splatters and spots of blood everywhere, I was totally freaked out.

Took him to the vets promptly... he has to be sedated for examination as he's fearfully aggressive with people he doesn't know. He got himself that worked up that the sedation didn't even work!!!! And we had to leave without having anything looked at. 😒

He is booked in again tomorrow morning to try again, and fingers crossed it works this time. They want to have a look at the eye, clean it, but also see if they can make an incision and get all of the gross blood out to see if the seed will come out and for it to heal on its own.

The vet also mentioned that his aggressiveness is a problem as it is hindering his treatment. He wants me to think about it, and keep in mind that if they cannot look at it and treat then euthanasia might be a suitable option. As you can imagine I lost it.

I'm praying it doesn't come to that. 🤞🙏

  • Update on Gus

    Just an update...

His eye is so swollen, and I know it's sore and irritating him because he keeps trying to paw at it and cries when he does. So I've finally found the E-collar, and I'm pretty sure he hates me.

I'm so shocked and amazed at how many kind people are out there, and I'm overwhelmed with how much support and kind words I'm receiving.

Thank you to everyone who's shown their love one way or another ❤️ we really appreciate it. 🙏
