Hi there! I'm Poppy and I have been accepted into the Youth For Understanding Exchange Program. I leave for Canada on the 28th of January.

Wellington

My name is Poppy Millar, and I am currently a Year 13 student at Kuranui College. I have been accepted on the Youth For Understanding Student Exchange Programme and am scheduled to go to Canada on the 28 January 2016.

Since the age of twelve I have dreamed of being an Architect, and plan to start my degree at Victoria University for this in 2017.

One of the reasons I chose Canada as my country to visit is Vancouver's Universities have strong programmes in Green Architecture, which I see as being a vital part of the future, and I would like to see how these programmes impact on and are incorporated into the city environment. I will be attending College to pursue these opportunities while I am there.

I enjoy and am proud to be part of Kuranui College, academically achieving NCEA Levels One and Two, gaining Level Two with Silver Honours, and at present I am on track to achieving Silver Honours at Level Three. I have been in the First Eleven Girls Hockey team for the past two years, and at the 2015 college sports awards received the Daley Cup for Sportsmanship. I am currently working for a local building firm as an Office Assistant.

I am seeking to raise funds for this once in a life time experience. The cost of the YFU programme is quite high totalling $11,250.00. My family and I have been fund raising doing lots of different events including a Masquerade, disco, catering, cleaning farm houses, and raffles, and at present have raised $6,125.00, so are about half way there.

Any donations would be much appreciated to help me get to Canada. :)
