Bay of Plenty
We - Mana I te whenua: Tūhourangi - Tumatawera and local Tangata tiriti have continued to take a stand against Rotorua Lakes councils planned sewage pipe project through Rotokākahi which we see as another form of colonisation
We: Mana I te whenua: Tūhourangi- Tumatawera are raising funds to establish a fighting fund to protect both the environment and the wāhi tapu of Rotokākahi from the Rotorua Lakes Council’s planned sewage pipe project.
This Sewage pipe poses a direct threat to the delicate ecosystems surrounding the lake, with potential massive environmental and cultural consequences.
Rotokākahi is not only a natural treasure but also a wāhi tapu-sacred site of great significance to our people, as many of our tupuna-ancestors are buried there. The proposed sewage pipe risks contaminating the waters, endangering local wildlife, and desecrating a place of deep spiritual and cultural value.
Funds will also be for other legal costs including for legal processes and court action required to work towards stopping the Tarawera sewage system coming through Rotokākahi.
We urgently need your help to oppose this plan and ensure that our environment and heritage are protected for future generations. Every donation counts, and together, we can stand strong against this threat and safeguard Rotokākahi’s legacy. We need everyone’s support—now is the time to act.
Money will also be used for other general legal, consulting, and maintenance expenses at Rotokākahi as long as these are not related to promoting any illegal activity by protectors at Rotokākahi. This is to respect and adhere to the conditions given by Givealittle
