5 year old Pugsley has been treated and has passed away post surgery.Funds raised will pay her surgical bill, excess go to the NZ Pug Rescue
Auckland
Initially we wanted to setup this page for surgery to give her a better quality of life.
Pugsley is 5 years old and has suddenly finding it hard to walk and struggling to breath. She was in ICU with the specialist vet group.
My husband Chris and our two girls live in Auckland and have had Pugsley in our lives since just over a year old when we took her in as a rehome.
Pugsley is the love of our life, a dearly loved member of our family. Recently we have came back from holiday and our poor Pugsley has suddenly lost the ability to walk, and struggling to breathe.
As per advice of our vet she was rushed to the Veterinary Specialist Group for treatment. To pick up Pugsley to take her to the vet, the only way to describe it was like picking up a hot puddle of jelly.
Pugsley's toungue was purple, she was going limp, and grunting just to get air in.
Pugsley spent the night in emergency care. The next day Pugsley was seen by the consultant who diagnosed her with Brachycephalic Obstructive
Airway Syndrome (BOAS) and required surgery.
Our options presented to us were to treat her or option 2 was to put her to sleep. We have decided she is one of the family, we will treat her and make
life as comfortable as possible.
Pugsley had emergency surgery where the news got worse, she had BOAS, aspiration pneumonia, and a grade 2 tracheal collapse. She was in ICU with a temporary tracheotomy tube just in case she couldn't breathe on her own.
Surgery went okay, we expected to see her in the morning. This is when we received a late night phone call from the surgeon who was concerned she was taking longer than usual to come around after being anesthetized. 20 minutes later we received that dreaded phone call from the clinic stating we should get to the clinic as soon as we can. We had a feeling this wasn't good news and it was a call to say goodbye.
We got the kids together and rushed to the clinic, and this is when we said our last good byes to Pugsley as she had slipped into a coma and passed away.
Since we went for the option of operating on her nares, soft palate, the saccules on her larynx, and antibiotics to treat her pneumonia. Puglsey's pet insurance will only partially cover the cost.
Our family would like to acknowledge and thank the pug community for their support during this difficult period of our lives.
All funds will go towards Pugsley's surgical bills and any excess will be given to the NZ Pug Rescue group.
