PURANGI WINERY - WINECELLAR - WITH A VIEW - THE NEXT THIRTY FIVE YEARS -

  • Summer time - Pizza time

      15 May 2018
    Main image

We can't believe how lucky we where having the opportunity offered to cook pizzas in a pop-up styled setup for the Hot Water Brewing Company in Whenuakite all summer. And the feedback was fantastic!

We are grateful to be part of a community like this, where businesses help each other in tough times. Big shout out to Jen Walker and her whole family for the incredible support! It was a great summer and everything worked out so well for both businesses. It help us keeping up with upcoming bills and it's been probably the greatest "give-a-little" we could have ever expected <3

We now finished the pizza pop-up and the Brewery is operating on off-season hours: Thursday to Sunday 11am-7:30.

Our Feijoa Cider is still available on tap as well as most of our popular Liqueurs as off-licence sales. So pop in to the Brewery to stock up on your favs.

While we were busy cooking pizza, we had a few developments with our new winery site:

We got the planning approval for the produce stall aka Wine Cellar. That means we will be allowed to sell our products, which include, handcrafted liqueurs, wines and spirits made from farm grown fruits, as well as non-alcoholic products such as preserves, jams, hot sauces and tea stuff. And we got our temporary off-licence approved (our first application was denied by council mid 2017).

Our temporary Wine Cellar stall set up (which you might have seen last year in a little wooden carport-like shed) moved into one of our containers.

We are now working on building applications to get plumbing and fit out of our kitchen container and toilet and wastewater facilities through.

The kitchen container will, for now, be used for the production of food stuff and preserves for the sale in our stall as well as tea manufacturing.

We are also on the way to move our winemaking and storage facilities from the old winemaking area into two of the three stacked containers in regard to upgrade the wine production towards higher winemaking standards.

While the development of the new site goes on we can't forget: it's autumn now and we need to do a lot of harvesting, processing and storing of all our produce. We've had a great feijoa harvest and done a massive crush for the next seasons liqueur. Persimmons are coming on well, though growing only old astringend varieties we need to ripen them to perfection for further processing. We have a tonne of limes what means we will be able to make a lime version of our very popular limoncello yummy!

Pop up any time to the new site, check up on our progress and say hi to Danny.

We will keep posting updates here as well as on our Facebook page and homepage. So watch this space and keep up to date with all the developments!

    Cheers,

    Team Purangi

  • Xmas update 🎄

    Hi everyone!

Here is another update before Xmas.

As expected we won’t be able to open at the new ‘Top Notch’ location for the public for the busy summer season. Please be patient, we are working very hard on getting everything organised!

But since we won’t be able to trade our good old liqueurs, cider and pizza from here, we have the opportunity to cook wood fired pizzas with our new mobile Pizza oven at the ‘Hot Water Brewing Company’ in Whenuakite. We will have our pop-up stand open from the 19th December until Waitangi Weekend in February. Over Xmas we will serve on 24th until afternoon and will be closed 26th and 27th. 12-7:30 are the opening hours.

We are very excited about the opportunity and we hope to see all our loyal friends and customers out there in Whenuakite ‘the land to see’ over summer. Our cider will also be available draft from the keg as well as a selection of our popular port and liqueurs (no wine tastings!!!). Look out for the pizza pop-up out side the brewery to order your pizzas and go in to buy the booze 🍹

And we have more positive news!

We got our temporarily ON- and OFF-Licenses granted. They have to be attached to a planning and building approved building. The building inspector just signed off all our shipping containers last week, so we only awaiting the decision from TCDC planning team. We are hoping to be able to sell our products out of our container stall after the pizza cooking in Whenuakite.

Here is a list of our next goals for the givealittle money:

    - $3000 for the acoustic report

    - $3000 for the traffic report

    Keep sharing the Aroha!

Merry Xmas and cu all in Whenuakite!

With pulling and rolling system, tractor, neighbours railway jacks and manpower, the container which will be turned in to our wine cellar is ready to get bolted down.

Also we manage to lodge first stage applications to council and hope they will get trough quickly.

Here is a list of what we will use the donated money from givealittle:

    - $1500 for the crane ✔

    -$2000 for applications ✔

-$1500 for the interior of the container ✔

    \(^o^)/

    Our next goals are:

    -$1025 towards alcohol licensing

-$3000 for acoustic and traffic reports for next stage applications.

Big thanks to all the people who gave money to show there support, but also to everyone who shared the link, told friends and family and of cause for all the motivating mail and messages - you keep us going.

A special thanks goes to all the people coming up to catch up with us and our progress.

We can't wait to hopefully serve pizza and cider to you guys soon xxx

  • Crane Action

      29 November 2017

    Hi guys,

We had the crane in yesterday and finally at least 3.5 out of 5 containers are in their desired position. Unfortunately (not that we had bad luck recently...) a technical problem made us have to postpone the moving of the other 1.5 container to next week (.5 due to breakdown while shifting container number 4 😉)

Nevertheless we are happy with the progress and shoutout a big thanks to the team from Coast2Coast Building service for their patience and skills to handle out challenging terrain.

Of cause a massive thanks go to all our donors as well. Keep spreading the word and keep up the good work. We more than need your support. Your motivation keeps us going.

Here is what we achieved so far:

    - The first $1500 go towards the crane which will lift our containers onto the foundations we just finished last week ✔ goal achived \(^0^)/

    - Next $2000 will be used to cover application fees at the council ✔ goal achived \(^0^)/

    - Next $1500 go towards fitting out our container 'buildings' —> almost there 😊

    - Next $1025 will be used for the cost of the new on- and off- Licences

    - Next $3000 will go towards acustic and traffic reports.

    Cheers Dears,

    Danny and Family

    Hi guys,

We finally finished the concret foundations for our 40’ stainless steel containers last week, now it's time to move them onto the concrete and lock them down, so they will stay there for next 30+ year without blowing away or rolling down the hill.

The crane is coming next Thuesday to move the containers onto the desired positions, yeah boy!

We are blown away by all the donations we received so far!

We can now tick our second goal and add another two new ones to the list:

    - The first $1500 go towards the crane which will lift our containers onto the foundations we just finished last week ✔ goal achived \(^0^)/

    - Next $2000 will be used to cover application fees at the council ✔ goal achived \(^0^)/

    - Next $1500 go towards fitting out our container 'buildings'.

    - Next $1025 will be used for the cost of the new on- and off- Licences

    - Next $3000 will go towards acustic and traffic reports.

Keep spreading the word and see you soon at the Top Notch Purangi Winery!

  • What a start!

    Hey guys,

    Here's our first update.

First at all thanks so much to all the generous donors so far! It means a lot to us to see that there are so many people who belive in us and want to help out in the worst of times. With your help we hope we will be able to get through the progress of relocating and reopening a lot quicker and will be able to add on to the millions of good memories and awsome times we created the last 32 years very soon.

We have a rough budget organized so you can actually see what your money will be used for and feel more part of the history making of the new site.

These figures are only estamated and might not cover the total costs, but it will help us a lot to achive our common goal of reopening the iconic Purangi Winery.

    - The first $1500 go towards the crane which will lift our containers onto the foundations we just finished last week ✔ goal achived \(^0^)/

    - Next $2000 will be used to cover application fees at the council.

    - Next $1500 go toward fitting out our container 'buildings'.

There will be further expenses like acustic report and traffic report as well as relicensing which we did never even dreamt of having to deal with, but now have to due to the odd moaner. We will update our goals regulary.

    Keep up the good work!

    Danny and Family

P.S.: We now stock our Lemon Gin, Aged Port and Lemoncello at the Cooks Beach and Hahei Liquor Stores.
