We have raised the $175,000 to purchase the property!!! The New Brighton and District Museum, Now we need funds to complete maintenance.
Canterbury
GOOD news! On the 31st May 2022, i received a phone call from Adam from DIA (Lottery funders) to congratulate the 'Museum' on being successful in our application for $105,000 towards the property purchase.
The committee, volunteers and supporters are excited.
We will settle the purchase at the beginning of July, then fund raise for the overdue maintenance.
we will have approximately $12,000 in the property account when settled. The first major work to the building is the roof. It requires replacement and some repair. An estimate cost of about $20,000 - $30,000 depending on what we find hidden.
We have already paid for an engineer’s report and earthquake strengthening design. Currently the building is remarkably at 50% of the building code and with a simple build of 2 small wing walls the building will increase to 67% of building code. We will will plan this for next year.
Donations for these repairs and maintenance are still required before we can start the re-roof.
Feel free to drop in to 8 Hardy Street and see for yourself the great work our volunteers are doing and view the building.
Thank you to all that have donated so far, small and big.

Thanks William, we are a little bit closer to having a new roof. All donations add up. Thanks heaps.
