All funds raised go towards the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust to ensure the continued operation of the rescue helicopters.
Southland
Up to sixty riders will cycle from Queenstown to Invercarcargill (230kms) on Friday the 12th of May 2017 to raise funds for our local rescue helicopter service.
Lakes District Air Rescue Trust operates helicopters based in Te Anau and Queenstown that service the wider Southland area. The cost to operate is $1.2 million each year and only 50% is funded by the Government and the balance comes from the community, general fundraising and the Westpac Chopper Appeal.
Over 450 missions are undertaken every year or 650 flying hours.
