Annual Westpac (virtual) Bike Ride Kawarau Bungy to Queenstown – 6 June 2020. Goal is to have 40 riders taking part.
Southland
Since 2010 and to support the Westpac Chopper Appeal, we have held an annual bike ride from Queenstown to Invercargill to raise funds for the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust. Due to Covid-19, this year’s event had to unfortunately be cancelled, however that doesn’t change the fact that the Chopper still needs our help!
So the tech savvy among us (thanks Stephen Willson) have set up a virtual ride through the cycling app RGT. Not the same 245km ride but a more doable 40km showcasing some of the best of Central Otago. We’ll start at Kawarau Bungy, set off on the Gibbston Highway (SH6) then up the switchbacks of the Crown Range Road. Most of our climbing is then done and luckily we’ll have access to the Tobin Track (usually trampers only) so we ride this to Arrowtown. Then we take a meander through the world famous Millbrook Resort, cross the Shotover River and drop back onto SH6 for a blast to Queenstown.
Our goal is to raise at least $ 5000 for the chopper and to have fun doing it. If you can, please support us.
All Funds raised will go to the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust.

Thanks all 25 June 2020
Thanks to everyone for your support. Our first virtual ride had a small number participate but we do appreciate the commitment from all who rode and gave $$. Looking forward to next year when we can complete our 10 year anniversary ride. See you all then.
