The ambulance response time to Wainuiomata is approximately 15 minutes. Having an AED on Queen St will save lives!
Wellington
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. The cost approximately $3,500, and 111 operators can tell you how to use one over the phone. AEDs save lives!
Wainuiomata does not have any ambulances. The standard response time is approximately 15 minutes. There are AEDs at the Fire Station, and inside the Community Hall (which is locked much of the time).
We are proposing that an AED is installed inside the lobby of the Way of Life 24/7 Gym, right in the heart of Queen Street. This lobby is open to the public most of the day, can be accessed by all gym members, and can be opened remotely by the owners (us!). Plus we can give local businesses an access tag to get to this area.
Have you ever been faced with a loved one or family member lying in front of you, non-responsive, an ambulance 15 minutes away? Do you ever want this, without an AED nearby?
We are therefore seeking donations that would allow us to purchase an AED and make it available to anyone who needs it on Queen St in Wainuiomata.
Please, give generously. Having this AED available 24/7 will save lives.
As we run the gym and karate academy, we see situations where an AED will save lives. If the council won't do it, and if other businesses won't do it - we will!
We will purchase an AED and install it in the lobby of the Way of Life 24/7 gym, and make this available to 'anyone who needs it' in Queen St, Wainuiomata.
