Hello, everyone! My name is Rachel, and I'm a 23-year-old second-year psychology student. I'm embarking on a journey to get diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. Unfortunately, in New Zealand, ADHD diagnosis and treatment are not funded, which means I have to cover the expenses myself. The bare minimum cost for the testing process, including psychologist fees and subsequent referral to a psychiatrist for diagnosis and medication, amounts to $1500+
I believe that obtaining a proper diagnosis is crucial for my personal well-being and will answer a lot of questions I have had about myself. By sharing my story and seeking support, I hope to raise awareness about the challenges faced by adults seeking ADHD diagnosis in New Zealand.
