  • It is DONE 💪

I had my mastectomy this morning! Surgery went very smoothly and my pain levels are nowhere near as bad as anticipated. Once again the biggest challenge will be to make sure I don't do too much too soon. I feel like I literally had a weight lifted off my chest. So good.

Once again a massive thank you to everyone who helped me to get here 💪

    Thank

  • One surgery down, another scheduled

      22 April 2024

A lot has happened since I finished my TA.

I'm now just over two weeks from removing my ovaries, surgery went exceptionally well and I'm slowly getting back on my bike, keep it to commuting for now while I continue to heal.

My mastectomy is scheduled for the 21st of May and I feel extremely positive going into the procedure. Will update again once it is done.

I am so very grateful for everyone who has helped to make this happen 💪

  • I made it 💪

I've made it to Bluff in 33 days, longer than most but a whole 7 days faster than I thought I was going to be. Making the most of my time before my ovary removal on 04/04 by cycling a bit further - to Dunedin via the Catlins. Mastectomy pre op is booked in on 09/04. Will update again as I proceed ♡

    Afternoon team 💪

Sorry about lack of update I've been doing a lot of big days in the saddle. Rolled into Greymouth this afternoon with two thirds of the journey under my belt. Still pain and injury free got my bike in the shop because just like humans the little niggles need to be attended to before they turn into big problems. Thanks to everyone who has shared and donated, I likely won't make target but I will find a way to fund the op because that's what I do: find a way and if I can't find one I will make one. Everything that has been given so far is a massive help to me and I appreciate it beyond words ♡

  • I've hit the road!

As I'm writing this I'm at the end of my 4th day on the Tour Aotearoa. While the first day was overshadowed by pain issues and doubt as to I can really manage this challenge I've surprisingly moved into a blissful state of being pain free which in itself is an amazing experience. Tomorrow I'll be passing through Auckland and onwards, over and out into the wild 👌

two more sleeps and I'm packed and ready to roll!

heading to kaitaia in the morning then up to the Cape on Monday ready to ride at dawn.

What a long road it's been getting here. 18 months ago I didn't even know if I'd still be alive today, yet here I am. Time to do what I want before I gotta buckle down and do what needs to be done. Surgery to remove my ovaries is confirmed for April 4th, hoping to have the mastectomy not long after.

I can do this. I deserve this.

Ride safe, hope you get fair weather and tailwinds!*

      * The tailwinds are unlikely all the way but some at least!

    Good Morning Team 💪

First up THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who has shared and donated I appreciate every single one of you!

With two weeks to go until I start the Brevet at Cape Reinga I'm in my final preparation phase. My bike is ready. My body is as ready as it's going to be - I'm dealing with some chronic pain issues due to my radiation treatment but the combination of physiotherapy and stubborn singlemindedness is doing a lot for staying on top of things. A bit of nerves are starting to set in, too. I got this. We've got this.
