Support for the Rai Valley Locals and Farming community
Rai Valley, Marlborough
Rai Valley has been hit hard with over a metre of Rai Valley fuel (aka flood water)in just 4 days. This has caused extreme flooding and landslides, leaving countless farmers and community members with little to no fencing, washed out tanker tracks, unimaginable mounds of mud, slash and debris plus significant road damage.
Numerous people have reached out asking how to donate money to help relieve the stress at an already stressful time; calving/lambing. The local community already has groups of volunteers out and about helping with fencing and clean ups.
Another group of wonderful people have been cooking over 100+ meals, with extra volunteers then delivering these to farmers and community members who are either too busy to cook for themselves, or have no access to food supplies. These volunteers are going wherever they can get to, some by tractor, some by foot, as roads are cut off.
It is very humbling to have the community pull together at a time of devastation and need.
Rai Valley is already somewhat isolated and now SH6 to Blenheim and Nelson is closed off for major repair work. Many pockets of land into the valleys are completely cut off.
Our farmers and community are exhausted, so if you can spare a dollar or two to help alleviate some of the stress for these people, this would be much appreciated.
I have lived in this community my entire life and have been Managing the Farm Source store for 9 years
Whatever is needed by our people - food, animal feed, fencing supplies, the list goes on!
