We are AUT screen majors hoping to get funding to put towards our final short film that sheds light on anxiety disorders.
Auckland
‘Grace’ is an 8 minute short drama film about a 17-year-old girl who, after a soul-crushing interaction with her GP, must find the strength to look for help again elsewhere. This is difficult as Grace’s school is not aware of her condition, and as a result, is unable to offer her the support that she needs. When the true extent of the problem is revealed, Grace finds a level of support that surprises her, and is encouraged to try again.
Inspired by true stories of those dealing with anxiety disorders, the aim of the film is to raise awareness of these. Another aim is to spark change in how such conditions are dealt with by the community, specifically the educational system and the medical profession. In order to achieve these goals, the aim is to screen the film at various film festivals, both national and international.
We are James Page (director) and Bridget Mathieson (producer). ‘Grace’ is our final project within our Television and Film Production major at AUT. We are passionate about films, and have worked on many together. This film is beyond just an assignment for us. It will provide us with the chance to shed light on an important issue that will resonate with many, and it could potentially help start our careers in the film industry.
Currently, we have a great team involved in the project. Elizabeth Hoyle, a talented filmmaker and lecturer in Television and Film at AUT, will be executive producing. Dexter Cheng, a videographer who has shot for BMW, Eat My Lunch, and Converse, is our cinematographer. Izzy Miles-Winterbottom who did the animation for the film's trailer, is head of art department. We also have Tom Verberne, a musician based in Wellington, who will be composing our score.
We need your support so we can make the film the best it can be. No matter how big or small they may be, receiving donations will enable us to bring this important story to life.
Thank you so much,
Bridget and James :)
