Fundraising for External Defib units to be placed in Papamoa Community

Papamoa, Bay Of Plenty

On 7th August 2021 Mark Weedon (a dad, partner, son, brother, mate and legend of a man) passed away after a cardiac event.

In the space of a few hours our world was turned upside down. When you lose someone suddenly, you can't help but ask the Why and What If questions. We have since learnt that members of the public administered CPR & used a Defib, but unfortunately nothing was going to save Mark that day.

A year on, we are determined that something good needs to come from Marks passing. In his memory we are raising $ to place External Defibrillators in central locations in Papamoa.

We currently have Papamoa College, Te Akau Ki Papamoa School & Papamoa Surf Club all agreeing to house one, and will add more sites depending on how much $ is raised (each unit is approx $3,500 each).

These units are designed to be operated by people with no first aid knowledge, and will help the user administer CPR correctly as well as advise when a shock is needed. Being external units, they will be accessible to the public 24/7 via a lock code we register with 111.

We truly hope one day these units will bring a loved one back to their family & friends, or at least shut down one of the inevitable What If questions.

Thanks for any donation.

The Defibs are now in place in the Papamoa Community  16 December 2022

We are very happy to update that all 3 Defib units are now in place and ready for the community to access if and when the need arises - at Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club (Domain Road), Te Akau Ki Papamoa Primary (29 Doncaster Drive) and Papamoa College (151 Doncaster Drive).

These are being registered with St Johns and their locations will also be added to https://aedlocations.co.nz/

This would not have been possible without your amazing support. Thanks to everyone who contributed to our effort to give something back to the Papamoa community, and to do something positive in Marks memory.

We are forever grateful. xx
