Using the Whaka 100 to get some precious dollars out of your pockets and towards the Kimi Ora 2019 school camp
Wellington
Last November following completion of a tough mountain bike marathon race I thought “hey I didn’t suffer enough through that, let’s find another race that is even harder” and I somewhat foolishly decided to enter the Whaka 100. This is regarded as one of the toughest one day mountain bike marathon races in the Southern Hemisphere comprising over 100 km of technical single track riding and a brutal >3,800 m of climbing in the beautiful Whakarewarewa forest near Rotorua.
As I’ve decided to inflict this on myself I thought it would be great if I could use the opportunity to raise some money for a worthwhile cause.
Kimi Ora School in Naenae, Lower Hutt is a special needs school catering for a diverse range of students aged from 5-21. It is also where my wife Sarah works as a Speech and Language Therapist. Every 2 years the school arrange a camp where the students get to do loads of cool activities like horse riding, water slides, archery and trampolines. As well as being a fantastic few days for the kids it also gives the parents and carers of the students some very well deserved respite from what is often a 24 hour care role. As is often the case these days getting funding to enable the camp to take place is getting harder and harder and I know that if you good people are able to make a small donation it will make a big difference to Kimi Ora being able to make the camp happen.
So whether it’s the thought of all the students having an amazing time at camp or me suffering on another of the relentless climbs during the race please make a donation if you can.
Thanks in advance and I’ll let you know how the race goes!

My wife Sarah works at Kimi Ora school and I know how great the school camp is for all the students and for the parents and carers who get a very well earned rest.
Funds will be used to pay for Kimi Ora School camp 2019
Success!! 23 October 2018
I am very pleased to report that on Sunday I successfully completed the Whaka 100!! As expected it was super tough, especially all the climbs, but I did it in 9 hrs 36 minutes in glorious conditions. Not bad considering the challenges of an appendectomy 6 weeks ago and a knee injury that I had to manage.
Thanks to everyone who has donated it is so kind of you! Your generosity and the cause of the fund raising provided huge motivation on the trails! As of today $966 has been raised 👍 The page will remain open for another 2 weeks and I’ll provide a final total then.
Thanks again for your support of the Kimi Ora School camp 2019 😀
