Raising money for cancer treatment
Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui
I have a secondary cancer in the liver and have exhausted the publicly funded options for treatment.
This included 2 different regimes of chemotherapy and exploratory surgery to see if the tumour could be removed (it couldn't due to its size and location).
The next recommended options is selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT), which unfortunately is a private treatment that is not funded in New Zealand.
I do not have private health insurance to cover the costs of the treatment. The quoted cost for the treatment is NZ$43,965. My family is contributing generously and I have created this page for others who wish to contribute.
Thank you.
Cancer Treatment - selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT)
Update 7 April 2023
Thanks everyone for your contributions, prayers and best wishes.
I have just had the treatment in Auckland and it went well. The radioactive beads were successfully inserted and I experienced minimal side effects. The potency of the beads wears off quite quickly - most of it is gone in the first 72 hours, but it takes time for the tumour to shrink. Fir this reason they wait 3 months until doing a scan to ascertain results.
I am feeling very optimistic and thanks again for all your support. It makes a big difference :)
