After hit by a car whilst on her mobility scooter. A bed & supportive lounge chair is something I'd like to have set up for Nana for comfort
Taranaki
Since being diagnosed with emphysema the smallest of walks have been a challenge. She could no longer walk to the supermarket, and a taxi to and from became her normal as well as help from family on occasion. As a form of independence for herself she purchased a mobility scooter.
On the 27th of September she headed home from the supermarket on her mobility scooter. On the footpath not even half way home a car going 60ks came around the bend, over the centre line, up the curb, missed a power poll by literally an inch but instead hit my Nana front on and pushed her back 5 meters before it flipped over and the car came to a stop.
The driver of the vehicle is being charged. There was no wof on the vehicle and also no insurance. My nana believes that the driver is genuinely devastated at what has happened and says it's just one of those unfortunate things that could have happened to any one of us.
My Nana is an absolute super woman and so very blessed to still be alive.
She remembers the whole thing and she's being so brave. A few bumps & bruises & grazes all over here and there, her left leg is fractured/broken in two places and is in a full length cast, a date will be made to have surgery to have plates put in. She ended up in I.C.U the night of the accident as she began having severe trouble breathing. On day 3 in ICU Nana had her 67th Birthday which she spent mostly sleeping 💜 Much better than how she was the previous day tho so massive smiles from the family. Scans and tests were done and clots in the lungs were found. The doctor has suspected the accident most likely has something to do with the clots found in her lungs which has caused the struggle of simply - breathing!
The mobility scooter has been a complete write off by the Police and was impounded for investigation.
Today with it being quite clear that she really is some kind of super woman and although won't ever fully recover from the fractured leg and many changes are going to have to happen to make living as easy as possible.
For health reasons and so that Nana can be comfortable in a less cluttered & cleaner home (A good clean out from dust and dampness) the family are all doing there part to ensure Nanas recovery is the most comfortable it can be.
******** This page was set up to raise funds towards a new scooter. After a few chats with Nana she has come to terms and made it clear that she does not want to ever use a mobility scooter again.
PTSD is a real thing.
I will keep the page going and update with how the raised money so far will be spent.
Nana has been on the same single bed for 15 years, so a new bed will be a purchase.
I'll share during the week more updates i just wanted to edit this quickly.
Thank-you 💜

The money will be spent on a mobility scooter. If there is any surplus left this would be put towards having hand rails installed around her home, a detachable shower head and things like that.
Rest home stay 23 November 2020
Nana is now out of hospital. Yay!
And staying in a rest home for the most part of her recovery. Her leg is still supported by an external fixator (a plate on the outside of the leg with 6 pins through the leg holding the bones in place until the leg can bare the body weight).
The money is going to be spent towards a new comfortable lounge chair for her that supports her without causing too much discomfort for when she returns home. Her one at the moment has seen better days and some.
Your donations are truly appreciated. Truly. 💜
The photo is taken a week ago of Nana and i at the rest home. X
