Doctor have confirmed Dad has Acute MyeloMonocytic Leukemia from the flow cytometry bone marrow and peripheral blood test.
Another risk is there is bleeding in Dad’s brain (burr hole treatment needed but not advisable for his age and bedridden condition). Dad is very keen due to the cancer diagnosis and his bp was 80/40 when he came to hospital.
Chest infection is also very bad, there is septic shock and ascites. Dad’s Haemoglobin and Platelets is very low).
So far 55 x Blood Transfusions, Platelets and Plasma transfusions) has been administered via central nerve IV and his platelets hasn’t increased from 30000 and it’s currently less than 190000. Haemoglobin is 7 and his health has been deteriorating. All medications has been stopped as Doctors advised that his condition is not curable and suggested chemo is not advisable.
I have paid hospital bills with 60% insurance and rest from my pocket and credit card (around $5000 plus $5000 for his blood transfusions and external lab procedures etc. We have decided to move dad from hospital to palliative care externally where he will be receiving fluids orally via Ryles Tube and a catheter in place and care from the Palliative care staff. I will also be visiting Oncology and Neurology outpatients for second opinion to see if there are any affordable cancer meds and treatment for bleed without surgery . Thanks everyone for your generous support, means a lot for me and my family at this stage.
