Fundraiser for surgery for Raya the silky terrier
Wellington
Raya needs knee surgery on her hind legs to prevent further locking and jarring of her joints. She has what is called 'luxating patella' which is painful and worsens with age. If you have taken her for a walk you might have witnessed her 'crabwalk' which happens when one or both of the kneecaps pop out of place.
She currently has trouble sitting down sometimes and the joints have locked a few times when she's been running up the stairs which makes her trip over.
Surgery costs around $2000 per knee and recovery takes 6-12 weeks. It's important to repair them while she's young for better recovery. Each knee will be operated on separately to facilitate better recovery, but I'm fundraising for both surgeries at the same time.
I'm appealing to anyone who has enjoyed Raya's energy and love, wants better quality of life for a small cute dog, or who otherwise might have given me a gift for my birthday or Christmas this year. Any donations will be appreciated.
Surgery on Raya's two hind legs and any associated costs (e.g. vet visits, complications). Any leftover funds will be donated to SPCA.
Raya's Full Recovery 16 July 2022
So despite the official recovery time being 8-12 weeks I would say Raya has mostly recovered in 6 weeks. Certainly recovered enough to go be pestered by her sister Roha while I'm in Aussie!
She seems a lot happier and more confident about walking and going out - she hasn't fully stopped running away from the harness at walk time but she's improving. Obviously she's gutted that I've now folded up her pram and put it away until the next operation.
I'm loosely planning for her next surgery to be in October. If you would like to help Raya have her new knees and can spare a little, please donate ❤️ Raya will pee on my flatmates' new duvet in gratitude.
