This year we are focusing on improving the love our students have for reading at school and at home by holding a school wide readathon.
Auckland
Our Read-a-thon 2018 works like this:
We have asked our families/whanau to have a chat with their child about a whole range of reading challenges that went home e.g build a fort and read a book, read with a flash light or draw a picture about the most exciting part of your book. Those challenges are all about getting our students to read and enjoy books and involve our parents and caregivers in the process. Our Read-a-thon will run from the 5th March to the 4th of April.
The families decide who could be a sponsor: family, friends, mum or dad’s work colleagues or other people they know and trust. They ask the sponsors how many challenges the student has to complete, before they receive the donation from the sponsor. The students keep a record on their sheet and colour in or tick the completed challenges.
Gulf Harbour School is set on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula. Our Year 1 - 6 students learn and play in a stimulating and creative environment focused on academic and personal growth.
So, what will we buy with all this money?
The answer is, we will buy fabulous readers and phonics resources for our juniors and sophisticated picture books for our shared reading sessions in the middle and senior school. PLEASE, GIVE GENEROUSLY!!!
