car accident 2002, have brain injury unable to get work .intend to travel NZ on 'trike sharing story at schools etc and pay off debt
Auckland
After struggling with who I was for years I had found myself. I had a degree in computer science as back up just in case my pilot dreams were cut short for any reason. I was setting myself up for independence and a secure future. I was working towards a master's degree in aviation and teaching flying to support my study and build up flying hours.. Had a fine girlfriend and my future looked promising.
Sadly this wasn't to be. I had a car accident on my way to work; a pig had escaped onto the road. My car hit it and spun off the road and smashed against a tree. My head took the full impact. I was otherwise unscathed. I was discovered hours later having a seizure. I underwent emergency brain surgery then was placed in a coma. After the medical team didn't get any response from me my family decided that the only option was to turn off the life support. I joke I'm like an annoying weed you can't kill me!
The problem is I haven't been employed long term since my accident. I started my own business and have had short term jobs but the effects from my brain injury meant it was too difficult to hold work down. I learnt to sit and stand and walk and talk. I’m trying to learn to run. I have ataxia so can’t run. Yet. I wasn’t meant to be able to any of the other things I can now do. You can’t keep weeds down.
My vision is still affected because of accidental optic nerve damage during my brain surgery, and my fine motor skills are limited because of my brain injury so my plans to be a pilot and if necessary a computer geek are impossible to fulfil.
I married that fine girlfriend and had a baby (now in her teens). Have since divorced though we’re still friends.
Nowadays I still want that independence I spent so much of my young years working towards.
I have a BSc in computer science and an excellent work ethic. I really want to work. If you can help with employment or financially in any way that will be good. I have no way to pay back my debt now. This debt would realistically be paid back if I was employed and did not have an accident.
I intend to travel NZ on my trike (– I cant balance on a bike) and stopping to present, motivate and inspire at schools and service groups. I've done this to Whakatane and Rotorua from my home in Pukekohe before. I would like to share my story and have written around 3/4 of an autobiography. I would like to finish it in time for the 'trike trip.
I have more recently fractured a vertebra and dealt with a sensitive bladder have both taken time for me to deal with. Hopefully, there will be no more delays and I can start this trip soon
relive debt ie student loan($60,000.) loan from parents (from failed business $26,000). credit card (from existing $18, 000) any remaining will be spent on on 'trike tour
