I’m in debt with a pawn shop with most of my electronics that I love and I’m about to lose them, I need help to pay to get them back.
Canterbury
I’m a trans non-binary welfare beneficiary who is unemployed for medical reasons and struggling to make ends meet. I’ve used the local pawn shop chain Cash Converters extensively to try to cover my costs and it’s become a vicious cycle of pawning items, paying to get the items back and needing to pawn them again because of the ridiculous mark-up they put on these loans.
Cash Converters pays cash for pawned electronics, such as my laptop, with a mark-up of 100% if the loan is not paid back within the first two months. After the third month, they sell the item. So a $100 cash loan for my laptop is about to become $200 that I cannot afford next month, along with several other items I’ve loaned them also being due at the same time.
I need help getting everything back from Cash Converters so they don’t sell it, and so I can stop using them altogether and get my money back under control.
The money will be spent paying Cash Converters loan costs, totalling NZ$350. If I exceed my target then I’ll put the surplus toward the cost of my psychiatric evaluation for hormone replacement therapy.
Update!!! 20 December 2019
Hi everyone!!
I just wanted to take a minute or two to thank you all again for your help and putting me way over what I ever expected to raise with this page.
I received the money you all so generously donated this morning, an awesome and kinda spooky total of exactly $666!! So I’ve been to cash converters and retrieved all of my stuff and it’s been so cool to have it all back home and I can finally relax, knowing I’m not going to lose any of it.
I haven’t decided fully what the rest of the money is going to go towards, but I’ve paid some of the fee for my psychiatric evaluation and I paid a big chunk of debt I had outstanding as well, and I bought a pretty new backpack as my last one was coming apart at nearly all of its seams since I use it A LOT. But rest assured, your money has helped me and will continue to help me so much more than I initially had hoped when I made the page last month.
Thank you all SO SO MUCH!! I hope you have a wonderful holiday/christmas/whatever you want to call it and an amazing 2020. I love you!!!
P.S. Please to enjoy this photo of the wonderful pretty backpack y’all helped me get!!!
