Devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 took place on 6th of February in South East region in Turkey.

Number of Cities Badly Impacted: 11
Population in the Impacted Cities: Around 15 Million (Almost 3 times of New Zealand's population)
Surface Area Earthquakes Covered: 500,000 square km (Twice as much as New Zealand's land area)
Number of Buildings Collapsed: over 26,000
Number of People Found Dead (as of 1st March): 45,089
Estimated Number of People Still Under Rubble: Around 180,000
It is estimated that the recovery and the rebuild efforts in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey will take many years.
