Devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 took place on 6th of February in South East region in Turkey.

The figures below might help put the horrifying scale of the disaster in perspective.

Number of Cities Badly Impacted: 11

Population in the Impacted Cities: Around 15 Million (Almost 3 times of New Zealand's population)

Surface Area Earthquakes Covered: 500,000 square km (Twice as much as New Zealand's land area)

Number of Buildings Collapsed: over 26,000

Number of People Found Dead (as of 1st March): 45,089

Estimated Number of People Still Under Rubble: Around 180,000

It is estimated that the recovery and the rebuild efforts in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey will take many years.

Who we are: New Zealand Turkish Society is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting Turkish culture, heritage, and community in New Zealand.

Use of funds

Your contributions will be directed to "Ahbap" charity organisation in Turkey to be utilised towards the efforts aimed at recovery and rebuilding of the cities that have been partly destroyed by the recent earthquakes.
