Red The Incredible - eye removal at 18yrs old

Red is a local celebrikitty in his neighborhood. At 18yrs old he’s still going strong, owning his territory and hustling neighbours for food.

Unexpectedly, Reds handsome face ballooned so was rushed to the vet by myself, a friend of the family he is choosing to spend the bulk of his time with. We suspected a tooth root abscess so, once his blood work confirmed he was safe for anesthesia, he had a dental to extract the infected tooth and clean the rest (he has a lot of teeth for a man of his tenure!).

Recovery went smoothly and although he hated being medicated, this dapper old man healed up.

Until 6wks later when his right eye (same side as his tooth root abscess) swelled up. A lot! His eye swelled shut and within days his eyeball swelled to the size of a golf ball.

With no other options, enucleation or euthanasia were the only choices. Euthanasia was never really an option so eye removal it was. The procedure went smoothly but we were shocked to discover behind his dying eye was a tumor - the likely culprit - his skilled surgeon removed the whole thing!

We were nervous about his recovery and how he would adjust to being a pirate cat (a one-eyed cat). Luckily he has taken everything in his stride and is still living his best “adventurous old man” life.

Now I’m left with the vet bills. Despite a good discount from the kind vets who took care of Red, I really need help to cover his expenses. I would greatly appreciate any contribution to his bills. Copies of Invoices in gallery
