Refugee Artist Needs Help to Frame Paintings for an Exhibition

$1,300 of $1,300 goal
Given by 38 generous donors in around 5 months

Help Ali to fund the framing of his beautiful calligraphic paintings for an upcoming exhibition.

Auckland

Sayed Ali Karam Jawhary (Ali) is a refugee artist from Afghanistan, who learned the exquisite art of Persian calligraphy during the years he spent in Iran. His day job is not well paid, and the company he works for has reduced work hours due to a downturn in their business. Hence, it is hard for him to find the money for framing his paintings for an exhibition at Depot Artspace, Devonport, March/April.

He is a humble and delightful man, struggling to stay afloat in a different culture, but determined to try and share his art with New Zealanders. His works are inspired by the ancient Persian poets, like Rumi and Sadi and Hafiz, who speak of love, friendship and peace.

Art for Change has supported Ali in the past to find a way into the New Zealand art world, and we would like to help him with his framing, so that he can present his work professionally.
