Donations to the Tiger Mateo Education Trust, in remembrance of her dad Marc Mateo, who was taken too soon.
Auckland
Our friend Marc Mateo was taken from us suddenly and tragically on 13 June 2015. Our thoughts are with Marc and his whanau - he was a well known fixture in the Piha community, and he will be sorely missed.
Knowing what a devoted dad Marc was, several people have expressed interest in donating towards Tiger's education.
We have set up an educational trust on Tiger's behalf. This fund is intended for Tiger's tertiary education, should she choose to pursue it. If not, she will gain access to all funds when she turns 25.
The trustees of the Tiger Mateo Education Trust are Marc's friends and Piha locals Tina McLaren and Steve Morrison, and Brett Carpenter from Queen City Law.
Many thanks to Queen City Law for the legal advice and a trust account.
Marc won't be there to help Tiger as a young woman. Tina, Steve, and I wanted to be able to help her in some small way during that time with a trust fund targeted at her tertiary education or her 25th birthday, whichever comes first.

Amazing $10k 23 June 2015
Wow, thank you everyone for your donations that have pushed this fund to $10,000 in under a week.
I will post further updates about the trust to this page as they become available. The trust itself is waiting on some paperwork to be officially established, after which the trustees will meet with financial adviser and Piha local Dave Boyce to safeguard and grow these funds for Tiger's education.
In the meantime, this page will remain open for donations through Tiger's 18th birthday - please feel free to share the link. As one donor put it, this fund is meant as "a way for the many wonderful family and friends that Mark and Tiger have to contribute their support and a genuine way to help." I couldn't put it better myself. I am so touched to see the messages of love for Marc from all over the world and his own Piha community, and I am so glad to have a way to honor his memory that will hopefully have a lasting impact for Tiger.
Thanks again to everyone.
