Renew the old schoolhouse

The committee of the RCCC are a small group of local volunteers who have taken on the responsibility and care of our community owned Riverhead School historic schoolhouse, with the aim of turning her into a highly usable asset for our local community.

The “old girl” as she is affectionately known was built circa 1900 to house Riverhead School, a singular schoolhouse, common at the time. Riverhead School is the oldest school in West Auckland and the fourth oldest school in Auckland.

Work to be completed involves painting, interior and exterior, repairing sash windows and wastewater/plumbing.

Once this is complete the old girl will be available for the following clubs/groups:

· Art and/or Craft classes

· Yoga

· Senior citizen group/youth group/parent & baby group

· Gardening Club

· Dance Classes

· Small Parties

· Local Get-Togethers

· Karate/Judo or similar

· And continuing as the Tennis Club

The options are endless and limited only by the community’s imagination!

This historic building could be so much more! Mainly original inside, right down to the old blackboard and wooden sash windows, she is crying out to be restored to her charm of yesteryear.

March 2022 marks her 150th birthday and she needs to have her best face on. We have the people, we have the plan and now we just need your donation. This is a one-off restoration fundraising event and every dollar counts.
