I entered in Mr Gay NZ as an HIV+ man to educate locally and globally on the stigma PLHIV face, but to do that I need your help.
Auckland
Getting the opportunity to represent New Zealand at Mr Gay World in Spain in May as an openly HIV+ gay man is such a humbling experience and honour. My sole purpose in entering the competition was to smash the stigma, misconceptions and misinformation that still surround HIV and living with the virus, not just in NZ but on a global level. The flights and accommodation are all provided by the wonderful sponsors at Eikōn, but there are a few other costs and obligations that, without your help, I have no way of meeting. You have all supported me this far and I owe the title of Mr Gay New Zealand to that support. But now I must ask you to dig a little deeper if at all possible because I truly believe I can use this platform to do really amazing work for PLHIV and the HIV response.
I have a longstanding history of involvement with various HIV campaigns, organisations and initiatives such as Body Positive, RiseUpToHIV, New Zealand AIDS Foundation, The Institute of Many, Positive Leadership Development Institute, Positive Speakers Bureau and this is an extension of all of that work.
I need assistance to raise funds for items such as the formal wear portion of the competition and putting together the national costume, and other items for the various mandatory events where I will be representing not just New Zealand but PLHIV on the world stage.
I also need funds for the mandatory 400 Euro for expenses that arise during the competition.
