I am just thrilled with the generous donations.... and how happy and energetic Buddy is! It will soon be the end of the Givealittle page, so will do a bit of a promotion. I want to have Buddy for as long as possible. Would be fabulous to still have him in good health in October - 1 year adoption anniversary!

It's been a while for an update on my beautiful Buddy! First photo is of doom and gloom - Buddy wasn't very well. But the last couple of weeks have been great and Buddy has been enjoying lots of outings again - with a big happy grin on his face. There is no way he wants to miss out on the action. (although his exercise routine is quieter than previously, but still fun). I am very grateful to still have my Buddy! Thanks all

  • still going!

      24 July 2015

Well, Buddy is still here! Didn't think he was going to make it a week ago. But the next day he bounced off the bed and trotted happily to go and get his breakfast. Yesterday I took all 5 dogs to the beach, Buddy loved it, he was so keen to be out and about with the pack. He has a couple of sores on his pads still - one is quite sore. His elbow is getting better - still has open sores, but they have improved heaps. If the situation changes and he goes down hill, I will do what is best for him. But in the meantime we are taking it one day at a time. (Still on all the medications). Each day is a happy bonus!

  • Vet visit

      14 July 2015

Thank you to Kat for the info on the Neighbourly's Givealittle chance to win $30 vouchers. I just won! Taking the Givealittle total to $805!! I am so thankful to everyone that was able to donate/share/support with Buddy. He had another vet visit today. In short - his elbow had another new infectious lump, and his temperature was 39.7 (norm is 38.5) so not good, Vet said next visit may need to be his last - ekk, that will be a big challenge to face. Was hoping that the anti-fungal medication would have given him a better chance.

He is on all the medications possible to help him and make him comfortable. He picked up this afternoon, is eating well, and still wagging that gorgeous tail of his..... so one day at a time.

No pressure here, but am posting this because the Vet bill is knocking on $2k (and thanks to them for allowing me to pay it off), and on the chance that someone may be able to help..... here is Buddy's link to Givealittle for the last time.

Also thanks to all that help the many animals in need out there in so many different ways.

    Hello

Off to the Vet again with Buddy boy in the morning. His elbow has flared up - quite nasty. Damm rare Algae disease!

He is a DREAM dog and has a massive chunk of my heart..... and I wouldn't ever have changed my decision to adopt him. Come on Buddy - get better! (as you possibly can)

  • update....

      30 June 2015

Buddy's elbow lump swelled up overnight and had a lot of heat in it. Vet took samples to see if it was bacterial or the Algae infection, it's the Algae infection. Although antibiotics would have been the fix if it was a bacterial infection, he has started a course of them anyway - to be safe, due to the heat felt in the lump. He is also back on Tramadol. Tonight the lump has started leaking, so have bandaged it up. He continues to be a wonderful patient, still loves his food, TLC and gentle walks. At least he is getting everything he needs. Time will tell.

  • Progress Report for Buddy

It was so awesome to have Buddy be able to join us for walks again!!! He is off all pain relief. The last of the 3 wounds has finally healed! He still has lacerations on his pads which I am attending to, but just nice grass walks at the moment. I feel like he has turned a corner and I am so happy!

He started the treatment to manage his condition (Prototheca - the only dog in NZ diagnosed with this) on 4 June. The actual cost is $148 for each 10 days worth (not $100 as initially thought, but the Vet has given a good discount which is appreciated), this is way out of my league, but Buddy deserves a chance at continued happiness and comfort. Ongoing treatment is required to manage the condition. Looking at the interest side of this rare disease itself, Buddy's progress will be noted, and hopefully be able to better assist with the treatment of any future patients.

I love Buddy, he is a fabulous dog and a wonderful member of the family and will do my best to give him the life he so deserves after years of neglect at the hands of an ignorant, selfish human.
