Restoration of the historic St Jude's church hall, Avondale
Auckland
St Jude's Church Hall was built in 1907 to complement the 1884 church. It was expanded in 1913, but remains essentially the same as when it was built - including the original iron roof, now sadly deteriorated. The hall has seen much community use over the years, including as a meeting place for soldiers about to be sent overseas, in both the first and second world wars. It is listed as a category 2 building by Heritage New Zealand, and is listed as an historic building by Auckland Council.
The hall is now badly weathered, and is in need of restoration. and any contribution would be much appreciated. Most urgent is the repair of the roof, and re-piling the hall
I am Priest-in-Charge of St Jude's Avondale, the Anglican parish in Avondale, Auckland.
Restoration of the hall, including initial design work, legal and council fees, and construction work. Any surplus would go towards a building maintenance fund, and if we are unable to raise enough for a full restoration, the urgent work will still be done
Update 15/01/2020 15 January 2020
The hall fund is in urgent need of money to allow us to apply for building consent to repair the roof and foundations. The sum involved is some $25,000. Please help spread the word even if you don't want to contribute or are unable to do so.
