The facts about Traumatic Brain Injury and Jail
1) Researchers estimate that up to 60% of incarcerated individuals are living with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in our prisons.
2) Problems associated with CTE and other types of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) include anger, aggression, depression, impaired judgment and poor impulse control, and as previously reported in Prison Legal News, people who have experienced TBI are more likely to commit violent crimes.
3) Brain damage in childhood and early adulthood may increase the likelihood of criminal behaviour. This damage typically lowers inhibitions or emotional control, affecting the way we respond to triggers in the environmental.
SAAM-AL is a charity set up to work with brain injury victims and
has been setup to provide support and housing to brain injury victims and to focus on reducing the number of brain injury victims who end up in our prisons
