The Restore Rotorua team are passionate about our city! We want to ensure that there is a WIN-WIN for both the community and the homeless. Our aim is that Rotorua remains a top tourist destination as well as housing/caring for OUR homeless.
We have managed to halt Resource Consents being pushed through by the Rotorua Lakes Council on Motels being used as Emergency / Transitional Housing on Fenton Street - with an independent hearing scheduled for early this year.
Of the 37 Motels on Fenton Street, 24 are Emergency Housing and three are MIQ or MIQ Army Accommodation. Leaving only 9 motels for visitors to Rotorua. 1 is closed for renovations.
We are genuinely concerned about the impact of mass Emergency Housing/Transitional Housing in motels in Rotorua and the effect that is having and will continue to have in the future - on our community, our people, tourism, businesses + our visitors.
