  • The Goal in short form

Revved Up Rescues combines my two lifelong passions—classic car restoration and cat rescue—to create Canterbury's most innovative animal sanctuary. We're addressing two critical New Zealand challenges: the rural cat overpopulation crisis and our nation's mental health struggles. Just as I see potential in a rusted-out vehicle, we see value in cats that traditional shelters might overlook. Research proves that feline companionship significantly improves mental wellbeing, so our sanctuary won't just save cats—it'll help heal people through therapeutic interactions and adoption programs. After devoting half my life to cars, I'm using those same restoration skills to give cats a second chance—because when my own mental health faltered, it was cats, not cars, that brought me back.

Two Critical Challenges, One Innovative Solution

New Zealand faces two significant crises: a cat overpopulation emergency in rural areas and a mental health epidemic affecting thousands. These issues might seem unrelated, but research consistently shows that positive interactions with animals—particularly cats—can significantly reduce anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation.

In rural areas like Canterbury, resources for abandoned cats are scarce. Simultaneously, these rural communities often have limited access to mental health resources. Revved Up Rescues aims to address both challenges through one comprehensive approach.

    Healing Through Connection

Scientific studies confirm what cat lovers have always known—feline companionship improves mental wellbeing:

Just 20 minutes with a cat lowers stress hormones and blood pressure

Regular interaction with cats reduces depression symptoms by up to 30%

Children who grow up with cats show greater emotional resilience

Seniors with feline companions report less loneliness and improved quality of life

By saving cats, we're creating opportunities for healing human-animal bonds throughout our community.

I have found the ideal location to set this up. A cafe with attatched house and garaging that would convert perfectly. This also opens the opportunity to open a small shop that can also fund the asanctuary. Its located right on state highway 1 so has alot of people passing daily. I have a kiwi saver of $40,000 and if i sell my current property and pay whats left the rest i am left with i should be alot closer.

The property is listed at $490k but might drop in price. Anything and everything gets me one step closer to making this dream come true.
